Last week Brooklyn’s remarkable Sharon Van Etten released her new album Epic. A few months ago BOMB Sessions was lucky enough to catch her playing  “Heart in the Ground,” check out the video above. She’s touring, too. Dates here.

In other news, for all you iPhone and iPad users Stephen Elliott has created an app for his novel Adderall Diaries and last week Michael Cunningham wrote a worthy Op-Ed piece in the Times on the many meanings of “translation,” and the National Book Foundation just named Tiphanie Yanique one of the prestigious 5 under 35 (she was elected by Jayne Anne Phillips).

This week’s calender is all about readings; on Wednesday listen to Jennifer Egan’s story “Safari” at Symphony Space, Thursday check out BOMB contributor Dennis Cooper perform at the New Museum or watch longtime literary scene extraordinaires John Giorno and Taylor Mead read at Dia:Chelsea . For the more visually inclined, Thursday night Lynne Tillman will be talking about the relationship between words and images in her work over at SVA and Keith Mayerson is showing new paintings at Derek Eller Gallery. Also notable: Roman Signer at the Swiss Institute, and John Kessler at Fisher Landau Center for Art in Queens (opens 10/17).
