BOMB Alert

GAS BOARD

Gas Board Flower Mound, by Joim Davis

The perpetually be-sunglassed Jim Jarmusch curated this year’s All Tomorrow’s Parties which kicks off this Friday. So, if you’re tooling around Monticello, be sure to check out Michael Rother and Hallogallo 2010, featuring members of Sonic Youth, who are also playing. And whose front couple happens to be BOMB alumni. Mountain men and women take note: after reading her BOMB interview, check out Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man’s Cell Phone, opening on the 11th at the Curious Theatre in Denver. Filmmaker Mike Figgis is a polymath, according to the pretty great Another Mag, and, before he left London for the proverbial Las Vegas (does such proverb exist?) he tickled the keys in Brian Ferry’s first band, Gas Board. It would take a polymath to locate their recordings. Too bad we don’t have any lying around. The wild and wacky performance diva Kalup Linzy is profiled over at Artinfo. For more info related to his  art, refer to his BOMB interview. We may have already mentioned this, but Jonathan Franzen has a new book out. Watch the “trailer,” as they’re calling this thing, here, and then see him read on the 8th. Iranian filmmaker Jafar Pahani has a new film, The Accordian, which premieres this Friday at the Venice Film Festival. Lydia Davis’ no-doubt crystalline translation of Madame Bovary was recently previewed in Playboy. The New Yorker’s Macy Halford finds that the  packaging doesn’t titillate as much as the content. Finally, and unrelated to BOMB in anything other than spirit, check out this great interview with Oklahoma City cable-access kid-show mind-benders Whoop De Doo at Rhizome.

And, as usual, don’t forget to tune in to BOMB Radio this Sunday at 11 AM…
